Faulk and her son, Josiah Duncan, were eating dinner at a local Waffle House when they noticed a man with his bike holding a bag outside the restaurant.
Noticing that the man wasn’t clean, Josiah started doing what children do: asking his mom a lot of questions.
“He’s homeless,”Faulk told her son. But Josiah didn’t know what that meant.
“Well, that means he doesn’t have a home,” Faulk said.
Faulk said he was most troubled by the fact that the man looked hungry.
Josiah told his mother that she should buy the man a meal, which she agreed to do.
He came in and sat down, and nobody really waited on him. Josiah jumped up and asked him if he needed a menu because he couldn’t order without one.
While the man started out by choosing a low-cost burger, they told him to order whatever he wanted. “Can I have bacon?” was his question. Faulk told him to get as much bacon he wanted.
But before he took his first bite, Josiah insisted he say a blessing(祝福) with him. With 11 other patrons watching, Josiah sang the blessing as loudly as he could, bringing everyone at the waffle house to tears,
“The man cried. I cried. Everybody cried,” Faulk said. “You never know who the angel on Earth is, and when the opportunity comes you should never walk away from it,” Faulk said in her email to CNN. “Watching my son touch the 11 people in that Waffle House tonight will be forever one of the greatest achievements as a parent I’ll ever get to see.”

Nearly 92 percent of people in China can access accurate knowledge about traditional Chinese medicine ( TCM ) in daily life, according to a study released on Thursday. But only 12.8 percent of them have at least a basic level of knowledge about TCM, said the study by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
It said seniors(老年人), who usually show great interest in TCM therapies, actually know the least. The study analyzed questionnaires(问卷调查) from more than 87,000 people aged 15 to 69 across the country. “The questionnaire is made up of 140 easy questions. For example, it gave a picture of some well-known acupuncture(针灸) points that are good for health and fitness. It let people choose which one was the famous Yongquan acupoint,” said Tan Wei, associate professor of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.
“Those results were not accidental. The majority of older people didn't get enough education,” Tan told China Daily. “In addition, they simply can’t tell true medical knowledge or skills when looking through Chinese medicine information on the Internet or smart phones.
“The younger generation’s ability to understand is much stronger than the elderly and they can absorb medical knowledge a lot easier,” she added.
The research also suggested that the level of TCM knowledge rose with education and income. “The study shows our citizens know more and more about traditional Chinese medicine, compared with a similar study in 2014,” said Zha Dezhong, spokesman of the administration.
“Mass media play an important role in spreading knowledge about Chinese medicine. Nearly 86 percent of people accessed TCM knowledge through media including newspapers and books but especially TV, which takes up the biggest proportion(比例)” he said.
The research also showed a gap in TCM knowledge between urban and rural areas. “Although the gap between urban and rural areas is getting smaller, we will still focus more on the underdeveloped areas and old people,” Zha said. “We will fully use the research to promote the spread of knowledge in China.”
28. Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?
A. Most lack basic TCM knowledge
B. TCM interested population is on the rise.
C. Senior citizens are best interested in TCM.
D. TCM knowledge gap is becoming smaller.
29. Why do older people have the least knowledge of TCM?
A. They are too old to learn.
B. They can’t answer the questions.
C. They are not well educated.
D. They can’t access the Internet.
30. What matters the most in the spreading of TCM knowledge?
A. Newspapers. B. Books. C. TV. D. The Internet.
31. What will the TCM administration do next?
A. Do more questionnaires.
B. Do more research into TCM.
C. Help the old get good education.
D. Further narrow the gap of TCM knowledge.
D
As humans encroach (侵入) more and more on wildlife habitats, animals are finding that the best way to survive isn’t to pack up and move—
it’s to adapt to the night life. A variety of previously daytime animals such as foxes, deer, and boars have become active at night to avoid human activity out of fear. But this nighttime switch comes with its own risks.
Researchers looked at how 62 species of animals on six continents changed their behavior in response to human activities such as hunting, farming, and development. The studies employed various technologies to follow the animals, from GPS trackers to motion-activated cameras.
Once night falls, the animals surveyed became far more active than they were before humans arrived, hunting and looking for food in the dark. For example, animals that used to split their activity evenly between day and night typically increased their nighttime activity to 68%.
The team also found the animals responded similarly to these human encroachments, regardless of whether human activity directly affected them. So, a deer might become more active at night simply because it sees humans hiking nearby, not because it’s being hunted.
The researchers believe these nighttime behaviors not only allow humans and animals to coexist more peacefully, they may be able to give us hints as to how to plan conservation efforts accordingly, such as limiting human activity during times when a specific species is more active. But moving to the nightlife could also have downsides for these animals. A nighttime lifestyle can decrease an animal’s ability to hunt and find food successfully and can even affect its ability to find a mate. Switching to a nighttime lifestyle can affect natural patterns of life even if these animals are doing so to reduce their interaction with humans. So, just because animals are becoming more active at night doesn’t mean they’ve escaped the influence of humans.
32. Why are animals becoming more active at night?
A. It is easier to find food at night.
B. It is easier to escape being hunted.
C. They can be less affected by human.
D. They have got used to nightlife.
33. How did the researchers find the animals’ behavioral changes?
A. They followed and watched the animals.
B. They used modern technologies.
C. They compared different animals.
D. They found more animals at night.
34. What can we infer from the fourth paragraph?
A. Any human encroachment can affect animals.
B. Animals can be affected only when being hunted.
C. Deer can get used to nightlife easily.
D. Animals should stay away from humans.
35. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The benefits and risks of animals’ nightlife style.
B. Animals have their own ways to get used to life changes.
C. Animals should be well protected before it is too late.
D. Animals move to nightlife due to human encroachments.

W: Excuse me. Could you tell me the way to the Alelo Bookstore?
M: Certainly. Go down this street until you reach the corner, and then turn right. Keep walking until you see the shopping center. Another right turn and you will see the MacDonald’s. The Alelo Bookstore is right at the opposite of it. You can’t miss it.
W: How long will it take?
M: About 30 minutes.
W: Seems not within walking distance. Can I take a bus?
M: Well, no bus takes you straight there. You have to change buses. Taxis will be more convenient.
W: Well, I will walk. Thank you so much.
M: You are welcome.

W: Hello, Dan, nice to see you here!
M: Nice to see you.
W: By the way, what do you like to do in your spare time?
M: I like to play sports.
W: Which sports do you play the most----volleyball, basketball, football or baseball?
M: The last one. When I was in high school, I played it very well.
W: You are more active than I am. I like reading, listening to music and surfing the Internet on my computer.
M: I don’t know much about computers. All I have is a typewriter.
W: Really? But you can’t get on the Internet with that.
M: That’s right. I use the library’s computers when I read my e-mail.
W: I know what you need for your birthday!

W: Allen, what do you study at university?
M: Hotel management.
W: Well, what do you hope to do after you graduate?
M: Ur--- I haven’t decided for sure. But I think I would like to work for a hotel or travel agency in this area. How about you?
W: Well, when I first started college, I wanted to study French, but I realized that I might have a hard time finding a job using the language, so I changed to computer science. With the right skills, I think it shouldn’t be as difficult to land a job in the computer industry.
M: So did you have a part-time job to support yourself through school?
W: Well, fortunately for me, I received a full scholarship that pays for all my tuition and books.
M: Wow, that’s great.
W: Yea, how about you? Are you working your way through school?
M: Yea, I work as a waiter three times a week at a restaurant near my campus.
W: What do you think of your job?
M: It’s OK. The other workers are friendly and pay is not bad.

Text 10
Do you have trouble sleeping at night? Then maybe this is for you. When you worry about getting to sleep and keep turning around, trying to find a comfortable position, you are probably making matters worse. When you do that, your heart actually beats faster, making it more difficult to relax.
You may also have some bad habits that lead to the problem. Do you often rest in the day? Do you get very little exercise? Do you exercise a lot late in the day? Do you sleep late on weekends? Any or all of these might be leading to your sleeplessness, influencing your body’s natural clock. What should you do then, on these sleepless nights? Never take sleeping pills. They can actually make it worse later. The best thing is to drink milk or eat cheese. These are rich in a kind of acid and help produce a chemical in the brain that controls sleep. That will help you relax, and you will be on your way to getting a good night’s sleep. Until tomorrow’s broadcast, this has been another in the series Tips for Good Health.
